Accionahas announced the signing of an agreement with the American companyTenaskato acquire a portfolio ofphotovoltaic projectsin the North American country, distributed in seven states. The portfolio totals a total of3,000 megawatts (MW)in large photovoltaic plants and also includes 1,000 battery storage. Specifically, the transactionincorporates 20 projectsin Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, the company said in a statement.
The Spanish company expects to put into service eight projects of that portfolio before the end of 2023. "This operation represents for Acciona the opportunity toincrease our commitment to renewable energyand sustainability in the United States through photovoltaic technology and energy storage, following the investments we already make in wind, "he saidRafael Esteban, director of Accione Energy North America. "We will materialize a significant part of the projects between 2021 and 2023," he added.
For its part,Steve Johnson, Vice President of Tenaska Solar Ventures, he was "delighted" to join forces with the Spanish renewable energy operator, "associating our extensive development experience with his knowledge in generation and construction."
Acciona's plans include adding 1,500 MW of peak power (about 1,200 MW nominal) to its renewable assets park in North America,where it has 1,245 MW of wind power operating and under construction. The company also manages a 64 MW solar thermal power plant near Las Vegas. Currentlyoperates about 10,000 renewable MWin property, in 16 countries on five continents.
