a year of political tension and many open wounds

The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday what seemed impossible very recently: the Law for the real and effective equality of trans people and for the guarantee of the rights of LGTBI people. The sticking point, one of the most tense in the still short history of the coalition government, contained, however, fewer words than the title of the regulation. 'Gender self-determination', a concept hitherto unknown to most and that has been at the center of a political and feminist tug of war. The result is a norm that, finally, assumes this precept, but also a process full of tension and pointing out that leaves deep wounds.
