A US citizen is detained in Colombia for sexual exploitation of minors



Colombian authorities detained a US citizen in Medellín who is accused of sexual exploitation of minors and who entered the country seven times, the prosecutor said Sunday.

The citizen contacted at least five minors in Medellín according to the first data and was arrested by the police at the Rionegro airport, which serves Medellín, thanks to the collaboration of the US embassy, ​​the Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement. .

The five victims are between 13 and 17 years of age and, according to the information available to the authorities, they were contacted by the US citizen.

These contacts were verified by the investigators who located and interviewed some of the minors, the information added.

The investigation of the Colombian authorities began on September 5, 2018, when the delegation of Medellín from the Attorney General's Office received, from the United States, reports that gave an account of a computer from which they offered such sexual exploitation of minors.

The information received by the Office of the Prosecutor referred to conversations through social networks in which a man offered up to $ 100 to have sex with girls under 18 years of age.

The man involved in the dialogues was identified as Thomas Michael Renno, although he used three different profiles on social networks with various names.

These profiles he also used to share photographs, videos and other types of pornographic material.

In the investigation process, the Colombian authorities verified that the foreigner entered the country seven times between May 9, 2017 and May 26, 2018.

The US embassy in Colombia warned of the possible sight of the man in Medellín between March 26 and 28, so the police waited for him at the Rionegro airport and arrested him.

On the American one, accusations now weigh for the crimes of "commercial exploitation with a person under the age of 18 years aggravated", "pornography with persons under 18 years of age in a homogeneous and successive contest", as well as "use or provision of means of communication to offer activities sexual aggravated in homogeneous and successive contest ".
