Neither the health alert nor the concern about Covid-19 have managed to stop the public’s interest in visiting the most ambitious exhibition organized to date at the Pérez Galdós House-Museum. Since its inauguration on September 24, the exhibition entitled ‘Benito Pérez Galdós. The human truth ‘has received close to a thousand visitors, the vast majority of them local public.
The montage, prepared by Enrique Bonet and that he has taken over the entire space of the aforementioned museum dependent on the Ministry of Culture of the Cabildo Gran Canaria, with the exception of the area that occupies his birthplace, is what the nearly a thousand people who have already passed through number 6 praise from Cano street. Another significant fact is that more women have visited it than men.
The museum has reduced the capacity (21 people) and the ratio for groups to ten people, while the pedagogical team of the center is currently developing a special program for schoolchildren to meet Galdós again safely.

The exhibition is an opportunity to travel, in groups of ten people and Guided by professionals from the center, through the different stages of the life and work of Galdós, as well as getting to know the many facets of the Gran Canaria writer thanks to the numerous personal objects exhibited in the museum that tell us about a passionate politician, musician, painter, playwright, novelist and above all about a genius.
The public has the possibility of contemplating the numerous original material from the documentary collections of the Pérez Galdós House-Museum and which allows, on this exceptional occasion, to see in the galley display cases and complete manuscripts of works such as ‘Marianela’ (1878) or ‘Gloria’ (1877).
The Pérez Galdós House-Museum celebrates the loyalty of the general public who, despite the turbulent times and the uncertainty in which we live, has not hesitated to approach and enjoy the multiple activities programmed in this special year of commemoration of the Centennial of the death of Benito Pérez Galdós.
Likewise, citizens and the different groups that have visited the Museum have expressed their gratitude to the institution for having maintained the activities and made an enormous effort to continue offering content such as this exhibition, which has functioned as a “call-effect” for participate in other initiatives.
In addition, the Pérez Galdós House-Museum has doubled the value of visiting the exhibition, since it also offers the opportunity to visit the most emblematic spaces of the Pérez Galdós House-Museum, such as the Sorolla Room, where the original portrait is located that Joaquín Sorolla made to Don Benito in 1894, and that, after its transfer to the National Library, it has returned to its natural enclave.
It is worth highlighting the Covid-19 protocol launched by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and which is closely followed in all museum facilities dependent on the island organization, facilitating the participation of citizens in the multiple events, through online registration, or carrying out an exhaustive control of the capacity at the entrance of the activities.
