A score of provinces are on yellow alert for snowfall



The State Agency of Meteorology (Aemet) has decreed this Saturday yellow alert for snowfalls in mountain areas of eighteen provinces, while the Galician coast is in orange level by coastal phenomena.

All the provinces of Castilla y León, with the exception of Valladolid, have a yellow alert for snow in mountain areas. In the Cantabrian mountains of León and Sanabria (Zamora) accumulations of up to ten centimeters are expected in 24 hours, the rest of the areas will not exceed eight centimeters of snow.

The rest of the provinces at risk for snow are the mountainous areas of Madrid, Cáceres, Lugo, Orense, La Rioja, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Jaén and Granada.

In the case of Orense, it could accumulate up to 15 centimeters of snow in the vicinity of the towns of A Canda and Padornelo.

The snow level expected for today is in the Pyrenees 700 / 1,200 meters rising during the day to 1,000 / 1,200 meters, in the southeast 900 / 1,200 meters rising to 1,200 / 1,600 meters and in the rest of areas 700/900 meters going up to 900 /1,200 meters.

The Aemet has also raised the level to orange on the coasts of A Coruña and Pontevedra by combined sea.

The coasts of Murcia, Almeria, Granada and the city of Melilla are on yellow alert for coastal phenomena and Almeria and Albacete have yellow level alert for winds of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
