“A normal person is not prepared for the information of a genetic test”
Last July, the US state of Florida prohibited life insurance companies from using genetic information about their clients to raise their policies, unless it is accompanied by the diagnosis of a medical condition. Already in 2016, the Council of Europe, which groups 47 European countries, including Spain, approved the first international legal instrument on this matter, urging governments to “ensure that no one is discriminated against based on their genetic characteristics” to get insurance. At the moment, the regulations on this type of test in Europe, a multimillion dollar business for certain private companies, is fragmented, although they want to harmonize.
