A new service against "piracy" is launched to protect the value of culture

A new service against "piracy" is launched to protect the value of culture

On the occasion of the presentation of the award that will be officially handed out on April 26 (coinciding with the "Intellectual Property Day") at the Headquarters of the Institute, the non-profit organization CEDRO, which has been advocating collectively managing the intellectual property rights of authors and publishers of books, magazines, newspapers and scores, has announced this morning the launch of a new free digital "anti-piracy" service for its partners capable of automatically detecting web pages that offer access to illicit copies of books, magazines, newspapers or scores that will be available at the end of Holy Week. In short, those media susceptible to plagiarism, theft and intellectual infringement. The pilot project of this platform has already achieved the withdrawal of 100,000 websites (between link pages and store pages) in which some type of cyber crime was detected in line with the objective of "protecting all editorial novelties, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year" that has stressed the president of the association Carme Riera. Within the drawing of a generalized balance of the current situation of intellectual property rights of the publishing sector, the latest published data on piracy have been pointed out, among which the fact that for each sold book three pirated copies are bought.

For reasons of immediacy, one of the first challenges that CEDRO intends to face is that of the possibility of making the collection of royalties compatible with the collection of the pension, because although it seems an issue solved after the Government of Pedro Sanchez was committed to approve this proposal framed within the implementation of the recent reform of the Intellectual Property Law, it is necessary to continue working on it to be able to materialize the text and convert it in a reality.

"In the idea of this service we have been working for a long time. The profile of the person behind the "pirate" page is also changing and now the content that can be accessed is much more open. Before, for example, the intention of the "hacker" was to take personal data and use it to develop marketing campaigns and now try to plant cryptocurrencies taking advantage of the ability of the equipment itself to not pay for electricity. Covering all this is complex but thanks to the help of a "partner" we will try to cover between 8,000 and 9,000 titles per month", Indicates the general director of this association of authors and editors Jorge Corrales, while adding:" With the process that we have designed, at the end of a month we will have a picture of all the "piracy" of the book for example and we will analyze the profile and the origin of those who do not remove it, to make us do it ".

In tune with the direct claims to the institutions that have happened throughout the presentation, Riera has asked the representatives of Congress and the Senate to "act responsibly" and that the incorporation of the copyright directive in the digital domain that was approved a few weeks ago is capable of offering "Legal security to those of us who work to create the common intellectual heritage".

It seems that the figure of the creator does not succeed in the 21st century to get rid of the judicial stigma that has been persecuting him for too long and that has to do with that legislative neglect that he faces every time he has to value his rights. The intention to defend this and other negotiated, was the reason why precisely this association arose and as a representative example of this commitment, now grants the "CEDRO 2019 Award" exempt of economic endowment, which falls for the first time in the figure of a journalist, Pepa Fernández.

The director of the National Radio program "It's not just any day", blessed guilty of radio, linguistic, scientific and humanistic dissemination, defender and lover of the word and metaphorical mother of the "listeners", she was remarkably grateful for the recognition: "This award I love for what it means. On the one hand, it is a recognition of the defense of culture and, on the other hand, of copyright with which I am not directly involved. I am not an author. I am the first "non-creative" to receive this award and for that reason I value it more. I defend copyright by conviction and selfishness as well. Something I think obviously because I'm a journalist. But something far from what is understood by an authentic work of art, literary work ... ".

It also ensures that its commitment to culture is a germ that began in 1999: "At that time I was looking for a program that did not have politics, that did not have a pink chronicle and that did not have football. Not for nothing, but because I thought those areas were more than covered during the week. Then we built that empty program of politics, empty of social chronicle and football. And it ended up becoming one of words. New words, old words, dying words, anagrammed words, chained words. But also of words in Latin, as explicit claim of the places we come from, "he says. His gratitude ended a day that serves to establish an explicit call to the benefits that comes with the fact that culture belongs to everyone and the need, the demand and the demand that those who create it should benefit and be recognized as they deserve, because the dignity of creation must be based on something more than words.
