A network dedicated to defrauding municipalities falls through the "CEO fraud"

The National Police has dismantled a criminal organization that would be behind the 'phishing' scam suffered by the Palma City Council in 2022, for 300,000 euros.

As reported by the National Police in a press release, the group specialized in defrauding municipalities through the modality known as the 'CEO fraud'.

In addition to Palma City Council, a Catalan municipality was also a victim of this organization, in another 300,000 euro scam. The suspects allegedly impersonated a cleaning company via email messages to get the administration to make a series of payments.

In total, six people have been arrested as allegedly responsible for the crimes of fraud, documentary falsification and belonging to a criminal organization. Police do not rule out future arrests.
