A crowd of people was mobilized this Saturday in Florianápolis, during the caravan organized by the Workers' Party (PT) in southern Brazil to ask for the freedom of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who will be serving a year behind bars for tomorrow. corruption.
The caravan this Saturday, is part of the activities programmed by the progressive formation in several cities of Brazil and the whole world, in support of the exmandatario, who since April 7, 2018 is imprisoned in the headquarters of the Federal Police in the city of Curitiba.
Lula, 73, former president of Brazil between 2003 and 2010 and who claims to be a victim of "judicial and political persecution", adds 25 years of convictions for corruption and money laundering, and is linked to six other processes.
In a new day to ask for the freedom of Lula, the former candidate for the presidency of Brazil for the PT, Fernando Haddad, arrived this Saturday in Florianápolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina, where he was received by thousands of people who advocated enthusiastic for justice for their leader, despite the rain.
Rio de Janeiro, the most emblematic city of Brazil, also joined the activities promoted by the PT this Saturday.
The program included an early "greeting to Lula", led by a group of women, and ended with a football match between artists, politicians and leaders of social movements, in which the singer Chico Buarque participated.
Buarque, a traditional representative of Brazilian popular music and personal friend of the exmandatario, dressed in short to support Lula, who has always expressed his unconditional support and who has participated in countless days to ask for their freedom.
Before the game, the musician and also a poet and novelist, assured that Lula's situation "is a shame for Brazil" and said that the minimum that can be done is to demand the freedom of the exmandatario.
"We are all together for the freedom of Lula, which is the minimum we can demand in a democracy before the setback that was his sentencing process," Buarque told Efe.
The "Politheama", Buarque's team, defeated "Amateurs and Amateurs for Democracy", by 8-3.
The Caravan "Lula Libre" is promoted by the PT in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná, and has included marches, from this Friday until Sunday, in the capitals of the three states, led by Haddad and the president of that formation, Gleisy Hoffmann, and backed by leaders of other left parties.
The first took place on Friday in Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul; the second was this Saturday in Florianápolís, the capital of Santa Catarina, and the third will be tomorrow in Curitiba, the capital of Paraná, where Lula has been imprisoned since April, and where followers of the PT leader from different regions of the country will converge.
The activities, which will run until Wednesday, April 10, are also being carried out in different cities of the country and the world.
