A mountaineer dies after falling more than 200 meters in an ice area in the Sierra Norte de Madrid



A 27-year-old man has died in the Madrid town of Rascafría, on the Cabeza de Hierro Mayor peak, one of the most important in the Sierra de Guadarrama, after falling from a height of more than 200 meters into an ice area and hitting himself with several rocks, according to a spokesman for Emergencias Comunidad de Madrid 112.

The Special Group for Rescue at Height (GERA) of the Community of Madrid Firefighters has accessed the place, an area of ​​difficult access, by helicopter and has left the body of the young man, which was well equipped, at judicial disposal.

In addition, the GERA has lowered the companion of the deceased to the Cotos car park. He was subsequently treated by the team of psychologists from Summa 112 at the Navacerrada Fire Station.

In the event, the Red Cross and the Civil Guard have also intervened. A call has alerted of the accident at 11:06 hours.
