A misunderstanding of protocol has caused today a confused situation between the kings and the president of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, and his wife, Begoña Gómez, after greeting at the beginning of the reception held at the Royal Palace on the occasion of National Holiday Day.
In his premiere as head of the Executive in the act that is organized annually in the palace on October 12, Sanchez and his wife have been the first to greet Don Felipe and Mrs. Letizia in the Throne Room.
Nothing else to do it they have placed to the right of the queen because they had commented to him that there was going to be a photo to which they were going to add the maximum authorities of the State, according to have explained sources of Moncloa.
In the line of greetings, Sánchez was followed by the president of the Congress, Ana Pastor; the Senate, Pío García-Escudero; that of the Constitutional Court, Juan José González Rivas, and that of the General Council of the Judiciary, Carlos Lesmes, some of them with their partners.
When Sanchez and his wife have been placed next to the kings, Pastor has shaken hands and it was at that moment when a member of the Royal House protocol service had warned them not to stand, but to advance. that the marriage has done immediately.
The idea was that the head of the Government and the representatives of the State would walk a little more after greeting the kings and wait a few seconds until the next group of guests arrived, made up of the ministers.
Moncloa has denied that it was a mistake by Sánchez, nor that he intended to alter the protocol.
