A man in the Philippines dies from the coronavirus, the first death outside of China

A man of Chinese nationality has died in the Philippines as a result of pneumonia caused by Wuhan’s coronavirus, the first death by that pathogen that occurs outside the borders of China.

The patient, who passed away on Saturday, is a 44-year-old man who was admitted to San Lazaro Hospital in Manila on January 25, the Philippines Department of Health confirmed in a statement today.

The number of deaths from the new coronavirus that causes Wuhan pneumonia in China rose to 304 today (45 more than Saturday), while the number of people infected with this disease in Chinese territory stood at 14,380 (2,590 more than the eve).
