A magnitude 5 earthquake was felt in San Martín, the northern jungle of Peru

A magnitude 5 earthquake affected the San Martín region in the northern Peruvian jungle today, without any personal or material damage being reported so far.
The earthquake was recorded by the Geophysical Institute of Peru at 16.11 local time (21.11 GMT) with an epicenter 25 kilometers northeast of Nuevo Cajamarca, in the province of Rioja.
The epicenter had a depth of 19 kilometers and was felt with intensity IV in Nuevo Cajamarca.
Given the distance to the Peruvian coast, the earthquake does not generate a tsunami on the coast, said the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Navy.
Peru is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where 80% of the global seismic activity occurs.
