From the literary sanctuary of Pardo Bazán to a fortress occupied for 80 years by the Franco family: the history of the Pazo de Meirás
The Court of First Instance No. 1 of A Coruña thus halts the intentions of the dictator’s family, who already I was finalizing the preparations for a big move that will include the works of art that Meirás treasures. Among them, two statues from the Pórtico da Gloria. According to what Franco’s grandchildren had told a Madrid newspaper, they had chartered about 50 trucks to empty it.
The Francos must leave the farm before December 10, after justice ruled in favor of returning the property to the state. Until the Coruña court authorizes it, they will not be able to remove any object from it, such as “glassware, tapestries, furniture, pictures by Álvarez de Sotomayor y Zuloaga.”
