A Colombian company reinvents itself by COVID-19 with disinfection services

From dungeons and hospitals to Franciscan postulants, Diego Alonso Pérez, a Colombian engineer who had chosen to form a kind of cleaning squad to combat the spread of COVID-19 and boost his company, affected by the quarantine, had to be disinfected.

"These are critical moments, but you have to look at the positive side of this pandemic to benefit customers and help to minimize the spread a little," Perez, manager of Hydrobombas, a company that is usually dedicated to the maintenance of pumping.

With the arrival of the coronavirus in Colombia, his company stopped working as an "emergency room" that, in addition to washing and disinfecting drinking water tanks in a hundred buildings in Medellín, repaired damage to residential units, hospitals or prison centers, among others.

Although these services are still in force in the dynamics of "ensuring that people have water during this closure", his creativity led him to diversify the offer when sales "faltered a little" during the period of mandatory isolation.

"We could get to serve about 15 clients a day," said the engineer, responsible for 23 direct and 10 indirect jobs.

Pérez took advantage of his experience in the sector and added knowledge to start implementing disinfection processes to reduce viral load on some surfaces.

RELIGIOUS SEEK TO PROTECT

Among the clients he has found with a disinfection service for common areas and interiors, there is the Franciscan postulancy Casa de San Pablo in Itagüí, a municipality near Medellín and where about 20 young people stay with four formators, who accompany them in their preparation. for religious life.

Fray Dayron Hinestroza detailed to Efe that they chose to improve the disinfection conditions, which includes the installation of a cabin with sprinklers at the entrance to minimize risks because "among the trainers there are people over 70 years of age".

The Hydrobombas team came to this Franciscan community, which took great care and celebrates masses on its soccer field, with its new development so that both the postulates and the priests tried the disinfection process carried out with products that "are approved and effective for the virus, "Pérez said.

This company, which has manufactured about 10 cabins, has carried out similar procedures in residential units in Medellín and in neighboring municipalities to improve the "health conditions to enter" of its inhabitants.

REINVENTION AND SOLIDARITY

After complementing the mechanical services of pumping equipment and tank washing, the entrepreneur wanted to make his contribution to contribute to the mitigation of COVID-19 with the donation of a cabin to a hospital and the intervention in a police command, where there are continuous circulation of people.

For these types of interventions, the manager said that the work group uses a suit that covers them from head to toe, in addition to a mask, glasses and gloves.

The Interact Corporation, which supports Colombian micro-enterprises and which trained Pérez with programs such as Get Ready and Acceleration Base Method, has accompanied this type of transitions that have allowed entrepreneurs to stay afloat in the midst of the crisis.

"I had to send the administrative part to his house and the sales have faltered a little, but we continue to evolve and that has served so that the work has not faltered," said the engineer.
