A change in self-dispatch adds a new difficulty to shipments to the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands Tax Agency has informed Canarian citizens that "Soon" the 040 model will cease to be operational to carry out the self-dispatch of purchases made online and shipments that may arrive from family and friends from the peninsula. From that moment on, the only way to self-dispatch the merchandise will be through the FIP, which is the Import Form for Individuals, as indicated by the Canary Islands Tax Agency.

The problem is that Correos applies a rate of 5.20 euros for customs and import presentation expenses for facilitating the summary and departure of the shipment, as pointed out by the spokesman for the Facebook group 'Autodespacho Canarias: simplifying the Customs and Import process', Víctor López, who has become the great defender of electronic commerce in the Canary Islands. "In e-commerce we are taking steps backwards every day," says López, who has questioned the Tax Agency on this matter and the answer they have given is that the modification of model 040 is part of the "update that is being carried out of all the tax models» so that they can be completed on the ATC website. "It also seeks to unify them with those of the AEAT as far as possible to avoid double procedures and facilitate compliance for citizens," he points out. As the ATC points out, the 040 model "is being analyzed to facilitate its processing." “The work entrusted to the working group has not yet been completed. The work is not finished yet»it points.

However, López doubts that the change to model 040 is still under study when letters have already been sent to citizens warning that "soon stop being available".

Although the Tax Agency insists that the disappearance of the 040 model is not yet final, from the Facebook group 'Autodespacho Canarias: simplify the Customs and Import process' Guidelines are being given to users so that they can claim if Correos charges them 5.20 euros for facilitating the summary and shipping item in order to fill in the FIP, which will be the only alternative to self-dispatch if the 040 disappears. There is also the option of paying 20 euros to Correos to do the dispatch. «It is an abuse against the consumer law that they charge for giving the summary and that is why you have to claim before the Post Office or go to the Consumer Arbitration Board of the Government of the Canary Islands«indicates the spokesperson for the Facebook group, Víctor López.
