93% of the budget of the museums of the Gran Canaria council was awarded to companies on the island
The six museum facilities managed by the Ministry of Culture of the Gran Canaria Cabildo directed by Guacimara Medina, invested in the island during the 2022 financial year a total of 830.000 eurosas is clear from 'Statistical Report linked to the Cultural Action of the Museum Service in Gran Canaria'.

Last year 2022 these island museums managed to almost triple the income of 2021 and maintained a degree of execution of 87% of the budget, which amounted to 6,003.863.53 euros, while that corresponding to this year 2023 amounts to 6,177.533.14 euros, which represents a 2.89% increase compared to 2022.
2022 annual revenue from visits amounted to 362.530 euroscompared to 136,543 euros in 2021, which means almost tripling the figure, despite the fact that the fees are only charged at Casa de Colón and Cueva Pintada.

The contracts

Said minor contracting attends to very diverse areas: transport, advice, machinery, laboratory equipment or information technologies, among other sections. In 2022, a total of 619 contracts, of which 591 were minor contracts and 28 tenders. The largest number of contracts were formalized with the largest museums, Cueva Pintada (27.6%) and Casa de Colón (19%).
Less face-to-face visitors
The six island museums received 267,000 face-to-face visitors in 2022. This figure is 21% lower than that of 2019, before the pandemic, but 76.20% higher than that of 2021. The number of virtual visitors in 2022 was 50% higher than that of 2019.

This objective is inspired, he adds, by the philosophy of the Cultural Statistics Yearbook prepared by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Government of Spain and, above all, the result of 100% execution -in the part that is the responsibility of the Museum Service- of the 2020-2022 Cultural Emergency Plan promoted by the Cabildo with the aim of minimizing the effects of the pandemic on the island's cultural sector.
