7,500 canaries fail to work each day without being out of work - The Province

More than 44,300 people on average do not go every day to their job in the Canary Islandsand about 7,500 people did it despite not being off, while near36,900 were absent due to temporary disability, according to the Quarterly Report on the Labor Absenteeism published by Randstad Research, the center of studies and analysis of the Randstad group in Spain.
In the Canary Islands,Overall absenteeism - whether justified or not - meant the loss of 20.5 million hours worked during the quarter studied(3Q2018), which translates into 4.9% of the total agreed hours, above the national average (4.5%). With respect to the previous quarter, absenteeism in the region grew by 0.12%.
At the national level,more than 873,000 average workers do not go to their job,being 234,000 people without leave and 640,000 for a temporary disability. Due to labor absenteeism, nearly 400 million hours worked were lost.
The industry is where there is the highest absenteeism, 4.8%, three tenths above the sector average. The services sector is very close, with 4.5%, while construction is where there is less absenteeism, 3.3%, 1.2 percentage points below the average.
The specific sectors of activity that recorded the lowest rates of absenteeism during the third quarter of 2018 were those related to employment (2.4%), sale and repair of motor vehicles (2.6%), and activities related to rent (2.6%).
At the other extreme, with the highest levels of absenteeism, are the activities of gambling and betting (7.4%), assistance in residential establishments (7.1%) and manufacturing of motor vehicles (7%).
The northern communities, with greater absenteeism
In certain autonomous communities, the problem of absenteeism is more serious, being País Vasco (5.5%), Castilla y León (5.2%) and Asturias (5.1%), the regions where higher rates of absenteeism were obtained during the third quarter of 2018. They are followed by Galicia (5%), Navarra (5%), Aragón (4.9%), Canarias (4.9%), Cantabria (4.6%) and Cataluña (4.5%). %), all of them above the national average.
Recording more moderate absenteeism rates, below the national average, are Murcia (4.4%), Castilla-La Mancha (4.3%), Extremadura (4.2%), Andalusia (4.2%) ) and Comunidad Valenciana (4.1%). During the period studied, the regions with the lowest absenteeism were La Rioja, Madrid (both with 4.0%), and the Balearic Islands (3.8%).
Regarding the interannual variation of absenteeism, Aragón (0.82%), Castilla-La Mancha (0.41%) and Navarra (0.38%) registered the highest absenteeism increases compared to the second quarter of 2018. On the other hand, in Extremadura (-0.26%), the Balearic Islands (-0.23%) and Murcia (-0.05%), there were the largest cuts in the absenteeism rate in the period studied.
Labor absenteeism without justification with a medical leave had, as regions with higher increases, Asturias (0.32%), Castilla y León (0.11%) and La Rioja (0.07%). At the other extreme, the greatest decreases were experienced in Galicia (-0.28%), Cataluña (-0.22%) and Cantabria (-0.20%).
