The health authorities continue to closely monitor the new cases detected in Spain of the new strain of coronavirus from the UK. The director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CAES), Fernando Simón, reported this Monday of a total of nine confirmed cases of the British strain in Spain, although he assured the existence of others that are still being investigated. This Tuesday the Community of Madrid has registered two other positives, which at the moment raise the total figure in Spain to 11.
In addition, after the increase in infections, in the face of New Year’s Eve, the Autonomous Communities have expanded the restrictive measures, that especially affect the limit of people in meetings and the capacity and hours of commerce and hospitality. The regional governments had already begun to regulate their particularities during the Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays, but given the current situation, several autonomies have asked to take steps back if necessary.
