128 kilometers to glory - The Province

It is the queen test and the most longed for. The one that everyone dreams of finishing. Last night the Transgrancanaria HG of 128 kilometers started from the beach of Las Canteras before the eyes of thousands of spectators. 931 runners took the start at 23.00 to try to fight against land, sea and air. The walk of Las Canteras brimmed with people who wanted to approach to show their support to the participants.

It is the closest test of the last ones that are remembered. Several elite runners aspire to win the third round of the Ultra Trail World Tour, which this year is cataloged within the Bonus Series category, giving the highest possible score along with the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail.

Among the contenders for the victory is the current double champion of the race, Pau Capell, the American Hayden Hawks (number 3 in the world in the ITRA ranking), the Canary Cristofer Clemente (current world runner-up ITRA), Pablo Villa (current champion of the Advanced) and the Russian Dmitry Mityaev. A priori are gold favorites, although behind them there are level runners like Tim Olson, Min Qi, Andris Ronimoiss, Vaidas Zlabys, Sebas Sanchez, David Lutzardo, Julien Chorier, Ernest Ausiró, Victor Bernard, Sange Sherpa, Alex Fraguela, Isaac Riera or Andrea Machhi, as pointed out by the specialized magazine Trailrun.

In women, the poster is also full of stars who are fighting to win. Although the Chinese Yao Miao stands out above the rest, who recorded records in several tests during the 2018 season. They will be followed closely by other runners like the American Kaytlyn Gerbin, the Italian Lisa Borzani, the Swiss Denise Zimmerman, the Portuguese Ester Alves, the Galician Aroa Sío or the Canary Islands Raquel Rivero and Sandra Moreno.

All of them will travel throughout the early morning and today 128 kilometers to reach the finish line in Expomeloneras. Before, they will have to pass through Arucas, Teror, Moya, Los Perez dam, Artenara, Tejeda, El Garañón camp, Hierbahuerto, Ayagaures and Parque Sur.
