The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, dependent service of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, coordinated, during New Year's Eve, the resolution of 1,004 incidents throughout the Canary Islands, so that it almost tripled the average of activity of other non-holiday nights in December.
As soon as to the behavior of the activity by territories, the Eastern Islands recorded 543 incidents, between 21:00 hours on December 31 until 08:00 hours on January 1, while the Western Islands 461.
By type of incidents, the most numerous were those related to citizen security, with 418, followed by the toilets, with 351. However, the fire extinguishing sector recorded the greatest increase in activity compared to another day in the same time zone, multiplying by ten, mainly due to the use of pyrotechnic material.
In this sense, they stand out, among others, the fire of a house in the area of The Minilla, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and that of vegetation that caused damages in two houses in the Tenerife municipality of La Victoria, both originated by the use of pyrotechnic devices.
Interventions in accidents, salvage and rescue experienced the second highest increase compared to any other night in December, specifically four times more, although none was serious.
The 1-1-2 Canary Islands remember the importance of following the advice of self-protection that during these holidays issued through their social networks with their campaign # Risk0 #NavidadSegura to avoid as much as possible the accidents to which we are all exposed during the Christmas season, with many parties and shows of great affluence of public and thus form to the population in the preventive culture.
